Launch St. Louis is excited to welcome Javania Webb to Gateway to the Future. Javania believes that it is imperative that women are able to sustain life on their terms in order to provide examples for their children who are the future of America. She also is a forever student of life and in the classroom while working on a Gender Studies certification with University of Missouri-St. Louis. Javania plans to bring diversity and wholeness to the community of St. Louis.

What’s the most exciting thing to happen to STL in the past year?

I will have to say that I am most excited about the redevelopment of downtown and midtown (especially the arch grounds, I am over joyed about the Amphitheatre. I was planning on leaving St. Louis but have recently decided to not leave due to the progressive changes. Now we have to work on the education system.

What do you look for in young leaders you’d hire/work with in your organization?

I will look for drive and passion, I need likeminded individuals around me who are looking forward helping not coddling our youth of today. I also need someone who understands the cycle of abuse and harm reduction models for at-risk youth.

What’s your most memorable experience as a leader in the community?

I am a new leader and still working on gaining experiences. Being a part of ‘Emerging Leaders’ this past year was awesome for me and gave me another boost to work on my leadership skills.

What inspires you to do the work that you do?

Knowing that children are innocent in their makings and what they were born into. A child cannot help that they are born in North City or West County, but every child should have the same opportunities no matter their zip code. I love the idea behind the two generation approach research because it shows us the statistics on what needs to change in order to help improve the lives and well beings of our children. They are our future and right now we are failing them significantly.
